One Book, One Burg: Louisburg Reads is one of our favorite programs. We launched this initiative in 2005, inspired by Chicago's community-wide literacy efforts. Our goal was to encourage everyone in Louisburg to read the same book and then engage in programs and events where they could connect with each other, and we were hopeful for its success.

To kick things off, we formed a focus group that developed a month-long schedule of programs, events, and reading activities. The mayor of Louisburg officially declared October as One Book, One Burg: Louisburg Reads month, and our very first community read was Once Upon a Town by Bob Greene.

Initially, we structured the event biennially, but due to its immense popularity, we transitioned to an annual program in 2011. Our past selections have included a diverse mix of fiction and non-fiction titles, aiming to appeal to a wide range of interests within the community.
